IMDEX is a leading global Mining-Tech company, which enables successful and cost-effective operations from exploration to production with mining SaaS. IMDEX needed to expand it's user research and create new personas and user flows.
Scope
Junior UX Researcher (me), 2 x Senior UX Designers, 8 Software Engineers
Team
- Lead and embrace a human-centred approach to develop solutions improving IMDEX client and employee experience
- Interpret customer insights and journey mapping to support the continuous improvement and creation of experience, services and products directly with customers while aligning to the target state experience vision and design principles
- Assist UX Designers in conducting user research, including interviews, surveys, heuristic reviews, usability testing, etc.
- Assist UX researchers in analyzing data and developing consumable, actionable insights and recommendations.
- Observe how UX teams collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams of designers, product managers, and other stakeholders to advocate for evidence-based user experience design throughout product development.

Goals
Transforming mining operations with cutting-edge software
IMDEX is at the forefront of mining operations technology and offers a range of mining tech solutions, from mine site management software to apps with drill data capture and analysis capabilities. With the recent acquisition of new drilling app, we needed to define new user personas and use cases. During the discovery phase of persona creation, we conducted a Web Designer Workshop with stakeholders to get a better understanding of our user needs and wants.
I gathered the research by interviewing developers and engineers. From this researrch, I created a the Web Developer Personas and then I validated the persona by interviewing software developers and asking them if they felt that the persona traits were accurate in describing your average software developer. Their top comments were as follows.
" Wow this persona is scary accurate. It sounds like you are describing me! "
" I think that working with new cutting-edge technology would be much more of a motivator for developers "
" It’s very important as a developers to keep up-to-date with any new frameworks so we are constantly learning "
I received positive feedback indicating that the persona was 90% correct, and that 10% of the persona required change. I made the required changes to the Persona, and validated it with the same three software developers. They all agreed that the Persona was more accurate and the Persona was approved for use.
Elevating user flows with digital design precision
Faced with the challenge of digitally re-creating hand-drawn user flows, I was charged with producing clean, minimalist diagrams that could efficiently communicate concepts in various collaborative settings.
Drawing upon my 8+ years of seasoned experience in Graphic Design, I strategically developed user flows that were aestheticaly appealing and high usability, and they have been seamlessly integrated into our current production processes.
These user flows are now fundamental in our operations and highlight the significance of combining visual design expertise with clear, efficient communication tools in a production environment.
Drawing upon my 8+ years of seasoned experience in Graphic Design, I strategically developed user flows that were aestheticaly appealing and high usability, and they have been seamlessly integrated into our current production processes.
